Description

DCL has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact, socialize, & conduct business. It is vital to invest in marketing strategies that promote growth, brand awareness, & new user onboarding to fully realize this potential & remain competitive. Sponsoring this project presents an innovative approach to addressing these objectives. Cost-effective Marketing: Our marketing campaign is an affordable & effective marketing strategy. Phygital t-shirts are cost effective & can be produced in large quantities, making it an accessible method to promote DCL globally. When people wear the DCL t-shirt in public, they will be walking billboards for the platform leading to word-of-mouth advertising & increased exposure for DCL. According to a BCG report, word-of-mouth marketing is up to 10x more effective than paid ads. Furthermore, McKinsey & Co reported that the importance of word-of-mouth marketing is only likely to grow with Gen-Zers as 82% of them trust their family & friends for advice on products more than any other source. What better way to empower our community members to market & promote DCL than to give them a product they’d love to wear & leverage to encourage others to join DCL. Enhanced Brand Recognition & Promotion: The creation & distribution of t-shirts featuring DCL’s logo can significantly boost brand recognition. According to a survey by PPAI, 85% of people remember the brand or business that gave them a branded or promotional product. Ennova will offer these t-shirts to both newly onboarded & existing DCL members effectively creating a network of individuals who will feel further empowered to promote DCL, ultimately increasing its visibility and reach. Innovative User Experience: Incorporating NFC tag technology into the t-shirts offers users a seamless & interactive experience. Scanning the embedded NFC tag can instantly direct them to DCL's website removing barriers to engagement & increasing the likelihood of onboarding new users. This approach will not only attract attention but also demonstrate DCL’s commitment to cutting-edge tech & user experience. Community Building & Engagement: Our design contest will foster community involvement & pride, as members contribute their creative skills & participate in voting for the winning design. This sense of belonging can attract new users & lead to an increase of repeat DCL visits from current users. A study by Invesp found that engaged customers visit a website 2x more often & spend 5x longer on a website than non-engaged customers. Studies like this one suggest that when customers are engaged with a brand, they are more likely to spend more time on the website & make more purchases / take other desirable actions. Offline & In-World Integration: This initiative bridges the gap between the digital & physical worlds by offering both virtual wearables in DCL & t-shirts with NFC tags. This integration will generate interest from a wider audience & create buzz around DCL, showcasing its innovative approach to the metaverse experience. This project is beneficial to DCL. It will address current gaps in areas such as new user onboarding, marketing, & community engagement. Furthermore, it will elevate DCL’s brand awareness, drive its further growth in the metaverse market, & showcase its commitment to innovation. Ennova is excited for the opportunity to bring this project to fruition & create something monumental the whole community can be proud of!

Hello again, @CheddarQueso. Thanks for the prompt reply.
This is not the definition of a phygital item. Respectfully, I don’t mean to be rude, but you are misrepresenting what you are giving the community. A physical item with an NFC tag that ties to a website is not a phygital. The item must exist in the owner’s wallet as a wearable NFT wich is usable by their digital avatar in the same way the physical item is used.
Respectfully, I am not misrepresenting anything. This may be the definition you and others may use, but that is not the definition of a phygital product. Please see the below definition found on [collectid.io](https://collectid.io/phygital-product-and-what-is-a-phygital-collectible/#:~:text=A%20Phygital%20Product%20is%20a,As%20an%20App%20or%20Website). *A Phygital Product is a Physical Product That Has an Association With a Digital Component, Such As an App or Website.*
I caution the community against relying on the GSS and the revocations committee to recoup any lost funds due to unmet deliverables.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this matter. Again, our goal is to do something innovative and different from what's been done before. Certainly, you are entitled to your thoughts about the budget and initiative, however, we would like to remove ourselves from the sentiments you've shared regarding other projects. We can only speak for ourselves. I have always taken my reputation seriously - academically, professionally, and even personally. I've excelled in goals and projects I've worked on. Outside of DCL, I'm a manager at a management consulting firm where I guide my team in optimizing processes for Fortune 100 companies, saving them money with ROI guarantees tied to my project's results. I, along with my partner Julio, have shared my full identity here. Comparing our project to project's unrelated to ours, respectively, is not the right approach. I urge the community to consider our background, project, and the value we plan to bring as opposed to comparing us to projects and people we do not associate with or even know. Please read our full proposal and ask us any questions that may provide more information and context around our scope of work. Thanks, @CheddarQueso, for the dialogue and sharing your thoughts. I respect the manner in which you've addressed me, the team, and our project. You are an example I would like to highlight to others in the community. I encourage others to take this same approach when reviewing and providing feedback to projects people sometimes take months to create.
The shirts will be given away and are the phygital assets as they are a physical item tied with a NFC tag that links to the DCL website. The wearables are going to be sold on the marketplace and are digital products. The shirts are the physical product tied to a digital marketing effort via the NFC tag.
This is not the definition of a phygital item. Respectfully, I don't mean to be rude, but you are misrepresenting what you are giving the community. A physical item with an NFC tag that ties to a website is not a phygital. The item must exist in the owner's wallet as a wearable NFT wich is usable by their digital avatar in the same way the physical item is used.
The wonderful thing about this platform is that grantees must meet with the Grant Support Squad (GSS) on a monthly basis show proof that the team has been tracking towards their roadmap. If we are unable to deliver, then there are ramifications. The GSS and community will also receive updates on the proposal monthly and can ask questions within the Discord. There are so many avenues to ensure performance.
I caution the community against relying on the GSS and the revocations committee to recoup any lost funds due to unmet deliverables. In most cases, a large amount of funds has already been disbursed, we don't find out about unmet goals until update times, and in the time the GSS finishes their investigations, and the Revocations Committee makes their decision, money is being wasted. Let's learn from our past lessons. There is an open proposal to pause grants again. It is obvious from the overall community sentiment in the Discord and here, that after resuming grants, we have continued to hemorrhage money at grants that do not bring value, many of them passed under suspicious or outright nefarious voting practices. Thank you for your responses @MelzBuenaVibes, you are very thorough and professional and I respect your opinion.

Hi again, @CheddarQueso. Hope you've had a great week. Responses to your follow-up questions are below:
We cannot award grant money just because you say it’s “a cool plan and you all will like it”. We need details, which schools and what programs, what type of IRL event are you holding, where, when, how many in attendance, who else will be sponsoring, invited guests, etc.
All of the information you are requesting is subject to the proposal passing. Think about it like this - imagine someone who is unemployed with no savings reaching out to an establishment to book an event with no money, no set date of when funds will be available to put down a deposit or of the event as they are awaiting a decision from a potential employer, or any other relevant financial details. The place will say "call back when you have that figured out". That's where we are at. Given this is a Sponsorship proposal, the IRL event is necessary to even qualify for this category so we definitely will be holding this event.
If the shirts you are giving away are a “phygital” what digital wearable will they tie to if you are selling the wearable in the marketplace to other people? This doesn’t make any sense… a phygital is a digital item that has a physical counterpart in the real world. You are either attaching the shirts to the wearables or not, or giving the phygitals away, or not… you can’t do both.
The shirts will be given away and are the phygital assets as they are a physical item tied with a NFC tag that links to the DCL website. The wearables are going to be sold on the marketplace and are digital products. The shirts are the physical product tied to a digital marketing effort via the NFC tag.
Again, too many contradictions. You say that you are going to recruit creators by promoting DCL and this contest, but you also say the contest is only open to developers that have previously published in Decentraland.
If you believe I am contradicting myself, then my apologies for the misunderstanding as that is not my intention. To clarify, **the event will be open to developers and designers worldwide regardless of their experience in DCL**.
You still give no information about your IRL event, but expect us to pay for marketing efforts to promote it.
As for the IRL event, I've responded above so will not revisit the question here, however, please advise of any further questions.
There are costs for shipping items, yes… but there are also better, more cost effective ways of distributing t-shirts. Peanutbutta offered some great alternatives, if the community is interested in merch. This is not a valuable use of DAO money.
Respectfully, we do not agree that the approach shared by Peanutbutta as it isn't taking into account all the facets and goals of our projects. If all we wanted was a t-shirt with a DCL logo, perhaps one can take his proposed route. We, however, are not simply looking to distribute shirts. The shirts are the result of the efforts, the tangible item people can walk away with. Open sourcing a design, as recommended by Peanutbutta, places the onus on the individual. Not only would they have to invest their own time and money to produce the t-shirt, but many might be deterred by the inconvenience or costs, resulting in significantly fewer brand ambassadors. Our approach is both practical and effective, ensuring that DCL's presence is seen and cohesively represented worldwide. While the simplicity of open sourcing a design for local print shops may seem appealing, it fundamentally lacks the cohesive branding, quality assurance, and ethical standards that our project ensures. Local print shops vary significantly in terms of quality, ethical sourcing, and adherence to brand guidelines which leads to inconsistent representations of the DCL brand. Our project ensures that ever t-shirt looks and feels premium and is also produced under ethical conditions. Ultimately, the DCL community deserves more than an inconsistent representation of its brand. Our proposal is about creating a unified, high-quality, and ethically produced brand representation that both the DCL community and the artists involved can be proud of. We've created an engaging contest coupled with a global recruiting and onboarding effort and IRL event where the platform and product will be showcased and shared with the attendees, respectively.

@Tudamoon - Please see my responses below:
Is that all your metrics? I am surprised that you dont have more to share being a web3 consulting company. Just to make sure I understand, all you care about is if the grant is successful in the eyes of the DAO without any other metrics?
As a consultant, one must hit the metrics of their clients. In this case, the DAO is our client. The measurement for success/adherence of the grant is the roadmap, so that is what we are using to measure success. If at any moment in the process that changes, we can pivot and adjust accordingly.
How does the whole community benefit from 800 T shirts?
The whole community can participate as it is not meant for a specific community-type. Everyone is able to participate by voting for their favorite designer, registering for the competition, purchasing a limited-edition wearable, and/or even has a chance to order a free t-shirt. You just have to participate to be eligible to receive one.
Who gets the profit from the wearables?
We have addressed this question within our proposal. Were you able to read it? We also referenced it in previous comments. It can be found in **Table 1 (f)** of our proposal. Please let me know if you are unable to find this information as I'd be happy to walk you through it.

MelzBuenaVibesAug 17, 2023

Hi again, @CheddarQueso. Thank you for restating portions of our project here. It will be helpful for the audience. One thing I'd like to clear up is your comment about the school. We have a plan of the schools we want to distribute the shirts to, however, we are waiting to announce anything publicly as we do not want to go back on our word once we share we want to donate DCL branded shirts to students. What we can say is that it's a cool plan and you all will like it!
The portion of your grant which promises to give 50% of proceeds from sales to the DAO and other proceeds to the developer and designer is not possible, as you have allocated the full supply for free distribution.
As for this comment - I think you may have misunderstood the project. The wearables will be sold. The shirts will be given away. The proceeds from the wearables are going to the DAO (50%).
In phase 1 you state that you will recruit DCL community members to *“promote the contest to their communities and followers across platforms such as DCL, Twitter and Discord”* and in phase 2 you say *“the contest will be promoted thru various channels, including social media and twitter spaces”* then again, in phase 5 you pasted *the exact same line*… but the contest has already past, and the winners have been selected.
I will also clear up this misunderstanding. These are different phases with different activities. Phase 1 is the pre-contest kick off, where we will promote the contest itself. Phase 2 is when the contest is happening, so we will continue to promote it via all the channels mentioned. Phase 5 is when the IRL event happens, so we will, again, do promotion via all channels mentioned for this event. Please let me know if you still have any questions or confusion on this piece.
The marketing efforts in the slide titled “Ennova Onboarding Strategies” and most of the efforts you mentioned in your “Key Activities by Effort” slides are not mentioned or detailed at all in any phase of the roadmap.
This is by design. The "Key Activities by Effort" is a high-level view of activities and the efforts our team will have to dedicate to them. The "Ennova Onboarding Strategies" table was created as a supplemental document to provide a more granular view of the first bullet of the strategy we have to onboard and recruit new graphic designers and 3D modelers/animators. We added this document to provide additional transparency.
The proposal is intermingled and vague… there is no clear distinction between the t-shirt contest **(according to proposal is “open exclusively to developers who have previously created and listed wearables in the DCL marketplace”)** and your IRL event **(which promises to “onboard creative talent from all around the globe”).** We have no date, location, title, event type, or how it correlates with the t-shirt contest or Decentraland.
I'm not sure what you mean by intermingled and vague. The activities are meant to be go hand in hand as they are part of this multi-faceted project. To make it easier to understand, I have provided a breakout below: 1. We are going to promote a contest and DCL to recruit and onboard new creators/builders as well as promote the event to current creators/builders 2. We will host the contest 3. The community will vote on their favorite design 4. A limited-edition wearable will be created with the winning design and sold on the DCL Marketplace 5. A phygital t-shirt will be created with the winning design and given to community members 6. An IRL event be hosted 7. T-shirts will be distributed to DCL community members globally, students, etc. and during the IRL event
We should not be spending 43K to market a t-shirt contest, that is only open to DCL developers, we are using our own community members to promote, and they are only getting 3K of that money.
The members of the community are getting more than $3K of the money. The other big item you are missing is the additional creations that will be available in our platform because of the work the newly-onboarded creators/builders will do in the platform. We have also included our table with the value this project will bring to DCL inclusive of quantified dollars when applicable. **![1](upload://yH5qTiywg5mj4gSUubbzlkBxEVl.png)**
Spending 13K on “logistics of marketing materials” does not equate to “ensuring an efficient distribution” as the proposal claims. This is not a valuable use of DAO funds.
There are costs to shipping products globally. We will also be responsible for taking the products to the logistics vendor for shipment. Things have gotten more expensive to ship especially after COVID. In terms of value, I'm not sure we can quantify value the way you are doing so. This is a cost to the project. The value is the shirt people will receive which will be worn and utilized *n* amount of times.
The DAO strategic planning working group has been researching, analysing and discussing ways to promote decentraland to developers, 3D modelers and graphic designers. We have caring, capable and active members that are committed to finding the most cost effective and efficient ways to market DCL to these communities, while guarding the treasury… and they are doing it without any grant funds.
We also attend and are active participants in these meetings. We helped create and elaborate upon a lot of the items found in the SWOT analysis and share your concerns. On the other hand, what we are doing today isn't working. If we want to truly invest in our platform, we must challenge the status quo and do things outside of our comfort zone. We cannot continue to do the same thing over again and expect different results. Thank you, again, for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to review our proposal! We appreciate you!

MelzBuenaVibesAug 17, 2023

@Tudamoon - It appears you do not have an understanding of what was previously mentioned and are conflating two separate scenarios. We have already shared the platform with our friends, and they are not being incentivized to join just for a shirt. Our project's goals and our friends are mutually exclusive and should not be discussed as part of this proposal. Our proposal isn't about bringing friends to DCL - again, the focus is creators. As amazing as our friends may be, they are not all interested in creating nor do they have the right skillset to do so successfully. That doesn't make them any less of a friend. Here's an example to help clarify your confusion. If your previously mentioned theory is correct, that would mean that ALL of Lebron James' friends should be in the NBA. Is that true? Of course not. Does that mean he isn't one of the best players representing the sport? Of course not. The thing is this project doesn't exist to convince anyone of its or our worth. If you do not agree with it, we respect your decision.
To be honest, it’s not hard for creators to find out there is a grant program, we can run some paid promotions even $10k worth and still find creators who would be interested here.
As for the aforementioned comment, if true, we don't see anyone doing it. If it isn't hard, why isn't anyone doing it? Especially for caring and loyal members to the DCL brand like you, it's shocking to see no one is taking advantage of this option.
Also what metrics do you plan on using to determine if this is a successful grant?
Successful execution of all portions of the roadmap, as required by the DAO.
What is your promise to the Holders?
We do not have Holders so no promises have been made to anyone.
How many creators per week are you going to onboard?
The recruitment and onboarding period set forth in our project is specific to part of Phase 1 and 2 of the project. We cannot guarantee contest participation numbers, however, we are confident that our results will meet or exceed the expectations of the DAO and community.

fractiliansAug 17, 2023

While I very much appreciate the goal of increasing Decentraland's user base and community engagement, I have significant concerns about the budget of this project that lead me to vote no. With over 15 years of experience teaching silkscreen and working in t-shirt design/printing, I know firsthand that 800 custom printed shirts could easily be produced for a fraction of the $17,600 proposed in this budget. I agree with Canessa's suggestion that a smaller grant would be more appropriate to test the impact and collect data for this. I would feel much more comfortable and would consider possibly approving a significantly lower budget version of this proposal. Overall, I cannot approve what I consider an overpriced and potentially ineffective marketing spend given my background. I do appreciate the proactive effort by jEnnova and hope to see more cost-conscious community-building ideas brought forward

CanessaAug 15, 2023

This is a large amount of money. I would feel more comfortable approving a grant for $10,000-$20,000, look at the impact and data that provides, and if the data show that it was impactful, come back and ask for more.

MelzBuenaVibesAug 14, 2023

@Tudamoon - Yes, we can. We are also prioritizing protecting the privacy of people and will share shipment details in a de-identified manner.

TudamoonAug 14, 2023

Will you provide evidence of shipment?

TudamoonAug 14, 2023

You said your friends wouldnt want to wear the T shirts with Decentraland on it? So if you cant convince your friends to like DCL, why do you think you can convince creators to do so? What are you going to do tell them they can get free money if they come create in DCL? To be honest, it's not hard for creators to find out there is a grant program, we can run some paid promotions even $10k worth and still find creators who would be interested here. Also what metrics do you plan on using to determine if this is a successful grant? What is your promise to the Holders? How many creators per week are you going to onboard?

TudamoonAug 14, 2023

Are you part of this project? I am confused who you are.

CheddarQuesoAug 14, 2023

After reviewing the proposal more in-depth and taking into account your responses, I am voting no for the following reasons: The proposal states that you will be distributing 800 t-shirts, 500 amongst the community ("event participants, foundation, members who participated in the contest, voting, hosting, tweeting, etc") 100 for schools (no specifics on what schools or coding programs), 100 for your IRL event (no details on what the event is, date, location or expected attendance), and the last 100 for future distribution ("community leaders and members who host/attend web3 events, conferences, events promoting DCL, etc"). You stated that you will handle the allocation of the last 100 shirts you will "establish a request form and process for DCL members to follow" The portion of your grant which promises to give 50% of proceeds from sales to the DAO and other proceeds to the developer and designer is not possible, as you have allocated the full supply for free distribution. In phase 1 you state that you will recruit DCL community members to *"promote the contest to their communities and followers across platforms such as DCL, Twitter and Discord"* and in phase 2 you say *"the contest will be promoted thru various channels, including social media and twitter spaces"* then again, in phase 5 you pasted *the exact same line*.. but the contest has already past, and the winners have been selected. The marketing efforts in the slide titled "Ennova Onboarding Strategies" and most of the efforts you mentioned in your "Key Activities by Effort" slides are not mentioned or detailed at all in any phase of the roadmap. The proposal is intermingled and vague.. there is no clear distinction between the t-shirt contest **(according to proposal is "open exclusively to developers who have previously created and listed wearables in the DCL marketplace")** and your IRL event **(which promises to "onboard creative talent from all around the globe").** We have no date, location, title, event type, or how it correlates with the t-shirt contest or Decentraland. We should not be spending 43K to market a t-shirt contest, that is only open to DCL developers, we are using our own community members to promote, and they are only getting 3K of that money. You are asking us to provide merchandise and marketing dollars for an event and school programs without being presented even the most basic information about these portions of the proposal. "Ennova will oversee and manage logistics of the 800 t-shirts, including transportation, storage, organization, and weekly deliveries, ensuring efficient distribution while handling the operational challenges involved"... Spending 13K on "logistics of marketing materials" does not equate to "ensuring an efficient distribution" as the proposal claims. This is not a valuable use of DAO funds. Logistics of Marketing Materials: $13,500 Social Media Manager: $5,100 SEO Strategy & Execution: $4,500 Content Creation: $4,000 DCL Community Member Contest Promoters: $3,000 Recruiting and Onboarding: $3,000 Analytics and Tracking: $3,000 Outreach (PR, platforms, podcast ads, etc.): $2,500 Social media promotion: $1,500 Email Marketing: $1,500 Platform Fees and Advertising: $1,500 In closing, The DAO strategic planning working group has been researching, analysing and discussing ways to promote decentraland to developers, 3D modelers and graphic designers. We have caring, capable and active members that are committed to finding the most cost effective and efficient ways to market DCL to these communities, while guarding the treasury... and they are doing it without any grant funds. If we want to distribute t-shirts I'm all for it.. I want one.. one for every day of the week!.. but we can do this more efficiently and cost effectively, with people we can trust to do what is right with the money and the merchandise. I ask the community to consider my comments before voting. Cheers.

Hi @morph. Thanks for taking the time to read and vote on our proposal. We also appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on you voting decision.
Majority budget is allocated to a team that already exists, if this team has already been spun up, I do not see why the majority of budget would go to paying their salaries, this would be more funding for the company itself over DCL, then also taking 10% of profits?
The team would be taking on a new project and would have to be compensated. We bring in our team as needed based on projects we have. Honestly, we don't care for the 10% profits, however, in order for this initiative to be sustainable, we need to take on some sort of revenue from it. One of the biggest issues we've observed in the DAO is that people don't build in sustainability efforts into their grant-funded projects. This would be a small revenue stream that could help fund future initiatives in an effort to avoid the need for grants.
Now is not the time to market, it shows a disconnection from the overall metaverse market space that is trending heavily downward, when our MANA value and cost per view is at a local high. This will not be fixed by marketing, I worry that attempting marketing in this environment is a net negative, the public perception of DCL is not great, even within the VR/Metaverse community, and we can only fix that by direct partnerships based on mutual understanding, not financing marketing campaigns and throwing money/t-shirts at the issue.
It's during this slower phase that we build and create products and solutions for the better times we know are coming. We understand the market is down. We have seen other projects not reap the results that truly reflects the amount of effort their teams put in for that very reason, however, we cannot time the market. Typically, when things "turn around" and are "doing well" (the market is flourishing, if you will), it's too late to invest. Entry costs are a lot higher and rewards are not as high. Bigger companies will come in and innovate us smaller players out. Look at what happened with Meta. Had the market continued to propel, they have the ability (read: data, manpower, R&D, market support, and, most importantly, money) to overpower us. We have to build the infrastructure while others are focused on other initiatives. The gap we have observed and what we believe is the best opportunity is getting as many creators / builders onto and invested in our platform to keep them and have them bring other creators/builders to DCL to join them. Although we disagree with your position, we respect it and your vote.
