This is absurd, having people impersonate “Michael Jackson” is common in any virtual world/game, but here they’re taking “admin-sounding names” which is step 1 for scammers. I think we should re-evaluate banning names, this misrepresentation can totally become more harmful in the future. I am a name squatter because i bought names that i supported.. I like the Founders of this platform and the foundation that built it.. I love DCLWorlds idea so i minted it.. How the fuck am i name squatter when i haven't listed any of them or tried to sell them privately to anyone. This is my item i minted with my money to collect a 1/1 NFT. Please ban all my names so we can see the true colors of the foundation Esteban :clinking_glasses:

ALPHAALVESDec 08, 2022

Founder of Decentraland, censoring  I think the fact that Decentraland used MVMF in their name for the festival when they were asked not is WRONG.. I haven't used my name in world or on the DAO to gain anything.. How am i scamming? If you want my names, trade for it like you guys did for DCLDAO and DAOCommittee, if you ban my names, i will happily never promote this platform again. From this day forward i am going to be more community committed than platform committed. You guys are upset about names being minted instead of minting them yourselves.. I can see the centralized parties have way more power here than i think.

    Esteban tell your friends to come get their names, i'm keeping them warm. I miss Ariel, Big Time has been doing amazing things!
There will be no adoption from normies in this space
"There will be no adoption from normies in this space" until world governments can label all assets as securities or not and find a way to tax and track all onchain transactions per user. Fixed that for ya. They dont give a damn about representation or safety of the people its money. If they cared Celsius FTX and xyz wouldnt of happened crypto is a decade+ old now.

Amen brother testify preach sorry the Bulgarian Community got small. I feel that.

mazafakaDec 08, 2022

Okay, okay. I have an idea, lets just rebrand to **Centraland** and ban everyone who minted a name. Eh? Now srs - All these convos about bans and restrictions + all the money from the DAO thrown in ***few*** projects that delivered nothing are the real problems. Whales, also the "friendly VOTE" are problem too. We all can see how some of the grants are passed, especially when we see, lets say for example 1 grant have 10 votes YES from whales and 50 against from regular DCL citizens. Here comes the BIG problem with onboarding people, they just don't believe in the idea. That's also the reason behind “cash grabbing virtual world with 38 users” joke, which at some point will become true if **we** don't realize the wrong direction. Let me give you another example, back in the days there was a small Bulgarian community here, now I'm alone. I agree that the scams and identity theft are not cool things. Just **DYOR** before investing. Use your brains boys and gurls. Isn't that the reason we're different from the animals? Oh, yeah, can you tell me how many ENS, BIT or HNS names or domains are banned? I can = 0 The most important thing we should focus on going into 2023 is giving value to every user & help each person grow within the community. /EOF

Now, that's for another topic :face_with_peeking_eye:

nwizDec 07, 2022

Don't forget about the wearable squatters too :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

JasonXDec 07, 2022

Here's my take, There are 4 types of groups who own/hold names 1 - Users; For signifying their digital identity, social status. 2 - Buyers/Sellers/Traders: I call this bunch the opportunists, squatters, early believers, long term holders. 3 - Collectors/Memorabilia; This group in some cases maybe similar to above two, however where it differs is, the names this group own are purely for memorabilia. Events, people, things that relate/cherish somethings from their past or previous life. Names like Ryu, Zelda, 2pac, Goku, Pikachu, Spiderman etc.. 4 - Visionaries; This group is special, because they see how it all evolves & comes together. Not what it is now but what it will be in x amount of time. Based on this, people have different names to suit their desires. What's the point in Web3 or Metaverse if you don't have or own the one name you really love. By JasonX
I believe that people who believe enough in DCL can see how claiming names that can be seen as “official” is detrimental to the platform and project as a whole. There’s an obvious clash of incentives if they placed their bets on squatting names that can be “official”.
At what exact point in the arrangement of letters does a Name become 'Official'?

SanninDec 07, 2022
I get it that those that invested 100 mana in a name will get mad that their investment didn’t pan out because their names gets banned . But hey maybe there’s other issues of equal importance like platform security to consider.
lol this can go both ways, I get that those who failed to mint a NAME they now see value in will get mad and want to ban it with the excuse of misrepresentation or being "official".

SanninDec 07, 2022
What makes a name official is a name that aims to impersonate an entity or person in an officie capacity . It’s that simple
A lot and i mean a lot of DCL NAMEs fit this. So its not that simple. The NAME was not considered to be official until it was minted literally a few days ago. Otherwise it would have been minted already. There's really no need for HP to do that since the NAME is not posing any threat. Its asking an invalid question in the DAO.

SanninDec 07, 2022

I understand that's how scams/scammers work and those are some of the tools they use. I am not discrediting the worry of it. However i ask again what makes the NAME official? Having into consideration 2 of the NAMEs that have raised this concern are DCL related NAMEs like the one that proposed this one(DCLFoundation). For the record i do not own these. I just keep thinking its concerning to want to ban assets of current users for owning them.

TheCryptoTenguDec 07, 2022

The SEC and a lot of people would agree. Id love to hear how the foundation , security team and dao would put the genie back in the bottle.

TheCryptoTenguDec 07, 2022

Think point is a nft isnt a identity. We act like these pfps and names our because we associate with them so much. Truth is they are just code and a image. We can change them the way we change outfits everyday. More people need to recognize that. Maybe dcl needs a verified mark and way to code id check that this is a permanent name tied to a wallet if it isnt in that wallet it loses a mark. As for forum i still stand by forum names over tied to nft. TBH tho id rather the devs make a sit emotion and fn crawl.

SanninDec 07, 2022

Where did I say that? What I’m saying is the Name minted is not why the scammer might be successful or not.

SanninDec 07, 2022

Again I understand the worry, what makes a dcl name be official though? If foundation or any of the founders wanted to use a specific NAME for official use then why did they not mint it. Answer I got was dcl was not an acronym we used back them and so I ask what other acronyms should anyone avoid when minting a NAME. Solutions are simple - are we confusing new users voting on DAO ? Then setting a forum name instead of avatar name would solve this. Prevent scams/ official use- mint it as you implement whatever the name would represent.

TheCryptoTenguDec 07, 2022

I got nothing against you @SugarClub and not trying throw shade at you at all. ive been burned in this space burned whole bitcoins to be honest. Its just a very fine line we are walking here. I refuse to blame the tech tho or nfts.

TheCryptoTenguDec 07, 2022

Accountability easier to blame the name and be emotionally hurt then accept the fact. If people with big hearts or financial interest want to collab they need to vet. They need to take the time and thats the problem. People get emotional and upset then those in power feel obligated to gatekeep and control based on those who were effected. Our own list of builders curators and others are called and interviewed for a reason before added to the registry.
