Avatars
Control the player's avatar and display NPC avatars
There are various ways you can control the player's avatar and change the gameplay experience for your players. You can also display avatars that aren't players, as NPCs in your scene.
What You'll Learn
- Move the Player: teleport the player or walk them to a new position with
movePlayerTo(). - Avatar Animations: make the avatar play default or custom animations, animate only the upper body, and detect when an emote finishes.
- Locomotion Settings and Restrictions: change speeds and jump heights with
AvatarLocomotionSettings, or freeze the player and block specific kinds of movement withInputModifier. - Avatar Modifier Areas: hide avatars, hide nametags, or disable the passport popup for players inside a region of the scene.
- Avatar Nametags: add a custom label above an avatar's nametag to show a rank, role, or team. Works on the local player, on other players, and on NPC avatars.
- NPC Avatars: display fully customizable avatars as entities, play animations on them, and use them to replace the player's own avatar.
💡 Tip: Many of these actions are also available with no code in the Scene Editor in Creator Hub, through actions like Move player, Play Emote and Play Custom Emote. See Make any item smart.
